2012 Villa Oliveira Vinha do Províncio Branco, Casa da Passarella
Dão, Portugal
Textural, golden and quietly profound, this mature Dão white carries the depth of an old vineyard and the cool mineral poise of the Serra da Estrela. Quince, ripe apple, sweet orange peel and lime oil unfold beside notes of nuts, gentle spice and a fine thread of oak. The palate is full and layered, with a creamy, savoury breadth held beautifully in place by bright acidity and a long, mineral finish.
For when you want a white wine with age, presence and a story in every glass.
Pairs with: roast chicken, salt cod, grilled monkfish, pork with herbs, mushroom risotto, aged sheep’s cheese or nutty vegetarian dishes.
Casa da Passarella is one of the historic names of the Dão, with roots reaching back to the late nineteenth century and vineyards set at the foot of the Serra da Estrela. The Villa Oliveira name was the estate’s first brand, revived more than a century later as a tribute to the house’s legendary wines. Vinha do Províncio comes from one of the estate’s old vineyard parcels, giving a wine that feels rare, traditional and deeply tied to its granite landscape.
