2012 Riesling, Mesh
Eden Valley, Australia
The Two Legends Riesling
A beautifully aged Eden Valley Riesling with a story as compelling as the wine itself. Mesh brings together two Australian greats, Jeffrey Grosset of Clare Valley Riesling fame and Robert Hill-Smith of Yalumba, in a meeting of minds devoted to one noble grape. Now over a decade on, the 2012 shows exactly why Riesling is one of the world’s great ageing varieties. Bright lime, lemon sherbet and green apple have softened into honeyed citrus, toasted almond, beeswax and gentle spice, while that brilliant Riesling acidity still gives the wine line, lift and life.
For when
You want a mature white that proves age does not always mean weight, just more detail, more texture and more story.
Pairs with
Oysters, crab, roast pork, Thai salads, smoked trout, chicken schnitzel, aged Gouda or anything with lime, salt and crunch.
If this wine were…
Two old friends arguing happily over a vineyard map, then agreeing on something brilliant.
Mesh is the partnership between Jeffrey Grosset and Robert Hill-Smith, two of Australia’s most respected Riesling voices. The project began with a shared ambition to elevate Eden Valley Riesling, and its name reflects the weaving together of their ideas, instincts and experience. The grapes are selected from two blocks, then divided into separate coloured buckets for each winemaker, before each portion is made separately and finally blended together. It is a wonderfully exacting, slightly eccentric process, and very much the point: two legends, one grape, one finely meshed wine.
