2019 Mighty Ox Shiraz, St Hallett, Magnum
Barossa Valley, Australia
Dark Charge
This is Barossa Shiraz with scale, muscle and serious table presence, bottled only in magnum and built to make an entrance. From the dry, low-yielding 2019 vintage, it opens with satsuma plum, blackberry, black cherry and dark berries, then rolls into dark chocolate, roasted meat, turned earth, liquorice, smoky oak and deep layered spice. It is bold, yes, but not crude. There is structure and polish behind all that power.
The palate is full-bodied, dense and richly fruited, with plush black fruit wrapped around muscular but fine tannins. The magnum format adds to the sense of occasion, but the wine earns it: long, dark, savoury and impressively persistent, with enough concentration to age and enough generosity to make a feast feel properly memorable.
For when you want a celebration bottle with Barossa power and old-school grandeur.
Pairs with ribeye steak, slow-cooked beef shin, lamb shoulder, barbecue brisket, venison pie, smoky aubergine, or aged cheddar.
St Hallett is one of the Barossa’s defining Shiraz producers, established in 1944 and long recognised for its deep understanding of the region’s old vines, grower parcels and sub-regional character. Mighty Ox sits firmly in the estate’s powerful Barossa tradition: a magnum-only Shiraz selected for fruit intensity, tannin structure and long-ageing presence. It captures the St Hallett signature in full voice, with dark fruit, savoury spice, polished oak and the confidence of a producer that has spent decades refining Barossa Shiraz
