2022 'Edda Lei Bianco', San Marzano
Puglia, Italy
White Silk
Seductive and beautifully expressive, Edda opens with sun-ripened peach, apricot and citrus, layered with white blossom, Mediterranean herbs and delicate vanilla. Chardonnay brings generosity and structure, Fiano adds freshness and savoury depth, while Moscatello Selvatico lifts the aromatics with an alluring floral character.
Rounded and creamy on the palate, yet remarkably fresh, the ripe stone fruit is balanced by bright acidity and a fine mineral thread. Four months on the lees lends texture and complexity, while the oak remains polished and discreet. Rich without becoming heavy, it finishes long, elegant and gently saline. It is one of the most compelling white wines we have tasted from Puglia.
For when: You want a white with the generosity of Chardonnay and the soul of southern Italy.
Pairs with: Grilled sea bass, seafood risotto, roast chicken, burrata, creamy pasta or mature cheeses.
Edda means “she” in the Salentino dialect and represents the more sensual, elegant side of San Marzano. The vineyards sit approximately 100 metres above sea level, where significant differences between daytime and night-time temperatures help the grapes retain freshness while developing their generous Mediterranean character.
