2024 Chardonnay, 16 Stops

Riverland, Australia

Peach Lift

Fresh, bright and generously fruity, this South Australian Chardonnay is all about clean flavour and easy charm. White peach, nectarine, citrus and soft floral notes lead the way, with a touch of spice adding interest without weighing the wine down. It feels sunny and approachable, but the crisp Riverland freshness keeps everything lively.

On the palate, it is smooth, dry and gently textured, with ripe stone fruit, citrus lift and a clean, refreshing finish. With no oak used, the fruit stays clear and vibrant, while three months on lees gives just enough softness to stop it feeling simple. This is a strong everyday buy for customers who want Chardonnay that is fresh, easy-drinking and versatile at the table.

For when: A relaxed dinner needs a bright, easy Chardonnay with plenty of fruit and freshness.

Pairs with: Roast chicken, grilled fish, creamy pasta, chicken salads, prawns, soft cheeses, vegetable tarts or lightly spiced dishes.

16 Stops is a South Australian wine range built around accessible, fruit-driven wines with a clear regional identity. Rather than chasing heavy extraction or obvious oak, the focus is on freshness, straightforward drinkability and good-value expressions of familiar Australian varieties.

The wines are produced with input from the same winemaking team behind Willunga 100, giving the range a strong technical base and a consistent house style. For the Chardonnay, fruit is sourced from the Riverland along the Murray River, where vineyards are grown on sandy loams over clay, with some higher sites showing sandy soils over limestone and clay layers.

Customers should trust 16 Stops because the wines are made to be easy to enjoy without feeling anonymous. The Chardonnay is a good example: ripe enough to feel generous, fresh enough to stay lively, and deliberately unoaked so the fruit remains clear and direct. It is the kind of bottle that works equally well as an uncomplicated glass on its own or with everyday food.

The 2024 Chardonnay is made from 100% Chardonnay sourced from the Riverland region along the Murray River in South Australia. The vineyards are fully irrigated and planted on two principal soil types: sandy loams over clay subsoils along the river valley, and sandy soils over limestone and clay layers at higher altitude.

The fruit is machine harvested at night and taken cool to the winery. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel using neutral and varietal-enhancing yeasts at cool temperatures to retain aromatic freshness. No oak is used at any stage. The wine then spends three months on lees before filtration and bottling. Alcohol is 12.5%, and the wine is closed under screwcap.

The result is a Chardonnay that tastes bright, peachy and clean, with citrus, white flowers and gentle spice. The absence of oak keeps it fresh and straightforward, while the lees contact brings just enough texture to make it feel rounded. It is ready to drink now and works especially well with chicken, fish, creamy pasta and lighter everyday dishes.

Incredible quality for the price.
