2019 Basket Press Shiraz, Rockford
Barossa Valley, Australia
The Barossa Time Machine
A true Barossa classic, crafted in a style that feels both timeless and deeply comforting. The nose opens with rich aromas of blackberry, plum and dark cherry, layered with hints of liquorice, baking spice and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is full yet beautifully balanced, generous black fruit wrapped in velvety tannins with notes of mocha, sweet spice and subtle oak. There’s depth and warmth here, but also freshness and harmony, finishing long with savoury richness and that unmistakable Barossa charm.
For when: a great steak deserves a great bottle.
Pairs with: grilled ribeye, slow roasted lamb or hearty winter dishes.
If this wine were a place: a long wooden table in a Barossa farmhouse.
Rockford’s Basket Press Shiraz is one of Australia’s most iconic wines, made using traditional techniques that are rarely seen today. Fermented in open vats and pressed in a 19th-century basket press, the wine is matured in seasoned oak barrels to preserve the purity and character of the fruit. The grapes come from a network of old Barossa vineyards, some planted many decades ago, giving the wine its depth and complexity. The result is a Shiraz that captures the essence of the Barossa Valley, rich, generous and built to age gracefully.
