Les Grands Assemblages 8YO Armagnac, Darroze (Gift Box)

Bas-Armagnac, Gascony, France

Gascon Orchard

Lively, generous and full of orchard character, this eight-year-old Armagnac opens with quince, ripe pear and candied orange peel, followed by the deeper sweetness of prunes. Delicate floral touches and a suggestion of honey lift the fruit, while restrained oak adds a gentle woody undertone. There is an appealing directness to the aromas, giving this younger Darroze blend a welcoming, distinctly spirited personality.

Supple and rounded on the palate, it combines a creamy texture with the bright energy of youthful eau-de-vie. Quince and dried plum carry through the middle, with citrus peel keeping the finish fresh and gently warming. Its balance of softness and vigour makes it a particularly inviting introduction to fine Armagnac, equally enjoyable neat after dinner, over ice as an aperitif or in a carefully made cocktail. Ready to enjoy now, it needs no further cellaring.

For when: Sunday lunch has finished, but nobody is ready to leave.

Pairs with: Tarte Tatin, prune and almond tart, pear frangipane, orange-dark-chocolate truffles, baked quince with vanilla cream or aged sheep’s cheese.

Les Grands Assemblages explores the changing character of Armagnac through a series of age-stated blends. Each combines different origins and harvest years to create a consistent style, with the age on the label referring to the youngest eau-de-vie in the bottle. The eight-year-old captures the collection at its most fruit-led and exuberant, presented here in a Darroze gift box.

Darroze’s story began around the table at Jean Darroze’s restaurant in Villeneuve-de-Marsan, where his son Francis developed a fascination with the food, wines and eaux-de-vie of Gascony. From the late 1960s, Francis travelled through Bas-Armagnac, discovering small estates and selecting spirits to mature and bottle. That personal search for character became the foundation of the family house.
Based in Roquefort, Darroze works with a network of estates across the region, with maturation cellars in Roquefort and Labastide-d’Armagnac. Bas-Armagnac’s sandy soils, including its distinctive tawny sands, are central to the area’s reputation for fragrant, finely textured spirits. The diversity of vineyards and individual producers gives the house a broad palette of styles.
Today, Marc Darroze continues his father’s work, overseeing selection, ageing and blending. Careful attention to each eau-de-vie underpins both the house’s individual estate bottlings and Les Grands Assemblages, where complementary characters are brought together to express a particular stage of maturity.

This blend is made from Ugni Blanc and Baco, bringing together Armagnacs from different origins and years. The youngest component is eight years old, giving the finished spirit a foundation of established maturity while retaining plenty of fruit and youthful energy.
The eaux-de-vie mature in oak before selection and blending. Darroze pays particular attention to barrel character and cellar conditions, both of which influence the balance between aromatic freshness, texture and wood tannins. For the eight-year-old expression, oak remains deliberately discreet, allowing quince, prune and candied citrus to lead.
The finished assemblage is bottled at 43%, preserving its expressive character and satisfying weight. The 70cl bottle is presented in a branded gift box.
Alcohol: 43%. Bottle size: 70cl. Minimum age: 8 years.
