2024 Premium Malbec, Piattelli Vineyards

Cafayate Salta, Argentina

Blackberry, blueberry and ripe red plum rise from the glass, joined by lavender, clove and a gentle touch of cinnamon. Subtle smoke and toasted hazelnut bring warmth and complexity, but the generous fruit remains firmly at the centre.

Medium to full-bodied and mouth-filling, with silky tannins, refreshing acidity and beautifully balanced dark fruit. Eight months in French oak adds polish and spice without weighing the wine down. Smooth, expressive and immensely satisfying, this is modern Mendoza Malbec with both crowd-pleasing richness and enough freshness to keep you coming back.

For when: The steaks hit the grill, and everyone wants a proper red.

Pairs with: Ribeye steak, lamb chops, beef empanadas, burgers with chimichurri, mushroom dishes or mature hard cheeses.

Made from Malbec grown around Agrelo in Luján de Cuyo, this captures the generous fruit and natural freshness created by Mendoza’s high-altitude vineyards. French oak brings an extra layer of spice and texture while allowing the wine’s blackberry, plum and floral character to shine.

Piattelli Vineyards is a family-owned Argentine producer founded by Jon and Arlene Malinski in 2001. Its first winery opened in Mendoza the following year, establishing the foundation for an ambitious range built around high-altitude vineyards, pure Andean water and Argentina’s most important grape varieties. The family later expanded into Cafayate in Salta, allowing Piattelli to explore two dramatically different wine regions.

The Mendoza estate is based in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, at the foot of the Andes. Warm, dry days encourage full ripeness, while altitude and cool nights help the grapes retain acidity and aromatic definition. Malbec is particularly at home here, producing wines with deep colour, generous fruit and naturally supple tannins.

Principal winemaker Valeria Antolín has been central to Piattelli since its earliest years. A fourth-generation winemaker and trained agronomist, she oversees production in both Mendoza and Cafayate, combining regional knowledge with precise, modern cellar work. Piattelli’s Mendoza vineyards are USDA-certified organic, while drip irrigation, composting, herbicide-free farming and biological corridors form part of the wider approach to sustainability. The result is a dependable range of polished, expressive wines offering genuine Argentine character and impressive value.

The 2024 Premium Malbec is made from 100% Malbec grown around Agrelo in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Piattelli’s Mendoza vineyards sit at approximately 940 metres above sea level, where intense sunlight, dry conditions and cool nights encourage concentration while preserving freshness.

The wine matured for eight months in French oak barrels, adding gentle smoke, spice and toasted notes to the naturally generous fruit. The finished wine balances a full, mouth-filling texture with refreshing acidity and smooth tannins.

Alcohol: 14.5%. Residual sugar: 2.41g/L. Total acidity: 5.62g/L. pH: 3.61.
