2022 Gran Enemigo Red Blend, El Enemigo *Magnum*
Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
En-Primeur offer: wines arrive in November 2026
This is Argentine red with real altitude and intent. Blackberry, elderberry and black cherry lead the nose, layered with violet, mountain herbs, dark olive, graphite and a subtle hint of oak spice. It has the richness you expect from Mendoza, but the aromatic lift and savoury detail make it feel far more serious than simply bold.
On the palate, it is juicy, intense and beautifully structured, with dark fruit wrapped around fine tannins, bright acidity and a chalky, mineral texture. The finish is long, fresh and quietly leafy, giving the wine a Bordeaux-like shape with unmistakable Andean energy. A standout bottle for anyone who loves powerful reds with precision, polish and cellar potential.
For when
A serious red is required, but brute force will not do.
Pairs with
Chargrilled ribeye, lamb cutlets with rosemary, slow-braised beef, venison, mushroom and lentil ragù, aubergine parmigiana or aged hard cheeses.
El Enemigo is one of Argentina’s most exciting modern producers, created by Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil. The Gran Enemigo wines sit at the more ambitious end of the range, showing how Malbec and Bordeaux varieties can deliver depth, freshness and savoury complexity in high-altitude Mendoza. This Red Blend is polished, intense and beautifully composed, with the structure to age and the generosity to impress now.
