Hardys was established in South Australia in 1853 by Thomas Hardy, an Englishman who arrived in the country with little more than ambition and a belief in the potential of Australian wine. He planted his first vines at Bankside on the River Torrens before purchasing the historic Tintara winery in McLaren Vale in 1876. By the end of the nineteenth century, he had become one of the country’s most influential winemakers.

Thomas Hardy was an early advocate of multi-regional blending, selecting fruit from different areas to build wines with greater balance, complexity and consistency. That philosophy remains central to the HRB, or Heritage Reserve Bin, collection. Each wine combines complementary parcels from regions recognised for their strength with a particular grape variety.

Although Hardys has grown into one of Australia’s best-known wine names, its premium bottlings retain a strong connection to that original pioneering spirit. The company’s extensive vineyard relationships provide access to exceptional fruit across several states, while generations of technical experience bring precision to the final blends. HRB offers a particularly compelling side of Hardys, delivering serious regional character, thoughtful winemaking and impressive value in a polished, cellar-worthy style.

Made from 100% Chardonnay drawn from five Australian regions: Yarra Valley, Margaret River, Pemberton, Tumbarumba and Adelaide Hills. The Yarra Valley forms the largest component, with the remaining regions adding their own layers of fruit, freshness and structure.

The regional parcels were fermented in oak before maturation for eight months in 225-litre French oak barriques. They were then assessed and blended to create the final wine, balancing ripe fruit and creamy texture with natural acidity and mineral definition. The wine has 13% alcohol, approximately 2g/l residual sugar and is sealed under screwcap.
