2023 Fleurie Les Moriers, Domaine Chignard
Fleurie, Beaujolais, France
Brilliant ruby and perfumed with violets, red cherry, and wild strawberries, this Fleurie is all charm on the surface but quietly serious underneath. The palate glides between floral grace and fine-boned strength. The silky fruit, polished tannins, and a mineral edge that adds tension and depth. It’s the kind of wine that starts soft and ends with conviction, marrying Fleurie’s perfume with the structure of neighbouring Moulin-à -Vent.
For when: the lights are low and dinner’s worth slowing down for.
Pairs with: roast duck, mushroom risotto, or thyme-roasted lamb.
If this wine were a person, it’d be elegant in linen but sharper than you think.
The ‘Les Moriers’ vineyard sits on a steep, south-facing slope that descends toward Moulin-à -Vent, giving the wine its trademark blend of perfume and power. Domaine Chignard’s 65-year-old Gamay vines, rooted deep in granitic soils, are hand-harvested and bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve authenticity. Under Cédric Chignard’s patient, traditional care, the wine captures Fleurie’s purest expression - floral, focused and quietly formidable.

93 points – Vinous.com “Lurid ruby. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red/blue fruits, incense and candied flowers, with a smoky mineral overtone that gains power with air. Offers palate-staining black raspberry and boysenberry flavors, along with suggestions of allspice and candied licorice. Concentrated yet lithe in style, showing excellent finishing clarity and an impressive mineral-driven persistence. “
