2019 'Plume' Pinot Noir, Lake Chalice
Marlborough, New Zealand
Falcon Silk
This is Lake Chalice’s finest Pinot Noir: refined, silky and deeply expressive. Wild raspberry, red cherry and red plum lead the nose, lifted by rose petal, baking spice, forest floor, clove and a subtle earthy mineral note. The 2019 vintage was[object Object],[object Object],[object Object] long, hot and dry, giving concentrated fruit, but the cool Waihopai nights kept the wine poised and aromatic.
On the palate, it is supple and finely structured, with bright red fruit, dried herbs, savoury oak and smooth, polished tannins. Whole-cluster complexity adds spice and lift, while bottle age has brought extra harmony and a more graceful texture. This is mature Marlborough Pinot with poise and purity: beautiful now, but still with the depth and structure to evolve.
For when
A special dinner needs Pinot with elegance and meaning.
Pairs with
Roast duck, lamb loin, pork tenderloin, mushroom risotto, beetroot tart, grilled salmon, venison, soft washed-rind cheeses or aged Comté.
The Plume is Lake Chalice’s pinnacle Pinot Noir, made only in limited quantities from standout parcels and strong vintages. The name refers to the symbolic feather of the New Zealand falcon, the Kārearea, which appears on every Lake Chalice label and reflects the winery’s long-running conservation commitment. Sourced from the Eyrie Vineyard in Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley, this is a small-production Pinot with both polish and purpose.
