2022 Sancerre 'Terre de Silex', Chateau de Sancerre

Loire Valley, France

Pale gold with green glints, this cuvée captures Sancerre’s essence in its purest form, vibrant, precise, and quietly powerful. Aromas of gooseberry, citrus zest and white peach mingle with smoky, gunflint notes and a touch of wild herbs. On the palate, it’s taut and mineral-driven with layers of crisp fruit and chalky texture framed by bracing acidity. Long, elegant and refined, it finishes with a saline lift that lingers like sea air.

For when: you crave something crisp, sophisticated, and effortlessly cool.
Pairs with: oysters, grilled asparagus, or soft goat’s cheese.
If this wine were an element, it’d be flint struck against steel - bright, sharp, and unforgettable.

The Château de Sancerre estate, spread across 55 hectares and 93 distinct plots in the villages of Thauvenay, Ménétréol, Bué, Sancerre and Crézancy, draws on an extraordinary patchwork of terroirs to craft wines of depth and precision. Terre de Silex comes from two special parcels rich in flint and clay, whose unique composition gives the wine its unmistakable smoky minerality and ageing potential. The 2022 vintage delivers classic Sancerre energy: crystalline fruit, elegant tension, and a seamless interplay between freshness and structure.

Château de Sancerre is one of the rare French wine estates that bears the name of its appellation. The Château itself dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was established by Louis de Sancerre in the 14th century. Since then, the vineyards have always existed alongside. The estate is situated on the left bank of the Loire and overlooks a unique terroir of four distinctive soil types, across its 55-hectare vineyard. The entire vineyard has obtained the sustainable certification HVE Level 3 which officially recognises the environmental performance of winegrowers, including biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategies, managed fertiliser use and water resource management. Since 2020, the estate has been cultivated using organic practices.

The grapes were sorted and gently pressed. Fermentation of the must took place with carefully selected neutral yeasts to allow the characteristics of the terroir to be revealed. The wine was aged for 12 months in stainless steel to preserve the purity of the fruit.
