Pitys Ritinitis Assyrtiko Retsina, Troupis Winery

Mantineia, Peloponnese, Greece

A retsina reborn, bright, aromatic, and full of mythic charm. Pitys Ritinitis shimmers with notes of apricot, tangerine zest, and white blossom, gracefully entwined with the herbal, resinous perfume of pine and mastiha. On the palate, it’s crisp and vivid, with Assyrtiko’s hallmark acidity carrying layers of citrus, wild herbs, and a delicate whisper of frankincense on the finish. There’s a tension here between freshness and tradition, a wine that feels both ancient and strikingly modern.

For when: You want a taste of Greece that feels like sea air and sunshine through the pines.
Pairs with: Grilled sea bream, calamari, or spicy Asian dishes that love a little resin-scented lift.

At 640 metres on the high plateau of Mantinia, Troupis Winery crafts wines that bridge innovation and tradition with a distinctly Greek heartbeat. With Pitys Ritinitis, the family pays homage to one of the world’s oldest winemaking practices, with the use of pine resin to protect and perfume the wine, reimagined through the lens of the noble Assyrtiko grape. Fermented with minimal intervention and sourced from organically farmed vineyards in Katarrachia, this is Retsina elevated: elegant, precise, and utterly expressive of both land and legacy.

High in the central Peloponnese, surrounded by mountains and cool breezes, Troupis Winery is redefining what Moschofilero can be. Though officially founded in 2010, the Troupis family had been cultivating their own vineyards in Mantinia since the 1970s, long before the grape became a symbol of Greek elegance. Today, the estate remains proudly family-run, a small, dynamic winery dedicated to crafting authentic, expressive wines that honour both land and tradition.

The vineyards lie on the Mantinia plateau, one of Greece’s highest and coldest PDO zones, sitting between 660 and 800 metres above sea level. The combination of altitude, poor soils, and a Mediterranean climate with continental influences allows for slow, even ripening, giving the wines striking freshness and aromatic clarity. Here, the pink-skinned Moschofilero grape thrives, producing wines that range from delicately floral whites to textured, skin-contact expressions and sparkling bottlings.

Guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention and curiosity, the Troupis family works with indigenous yeasts, extended skin contact, and a range of vessels from stainless steel and concrete to acacia and ceramic amphorae. The result is a portfolio of wines that are vibrant, individual, and deeply tied to their mountainous terroir. Troupis has quickly become one of Greece’s most exciting boutique producers, both a guardian of tradition and a bold innovator shaping the next chapter of Mantinia’s winemaking story.
