2022 Sassicaia, Tenuta San Guido
Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy
This is Cabernet Sauvignon at its finest: intense yet poised, focused yet endlessly deep. The 2022 Sassicaia pours a vivid ruby-garnet hue and opens with aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and wild cherry, layered with cedar, graphite, fresh herbs and a whisper of Mediterranean salinity. On the palate, it’s beautifully balanced, with ripe, dark fruits framed by fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral core that gives the wine lift and drive. The finish is long, elegant and tense, with flavours of tobacco, liquorice and crushed stone echoing long after the glass is empty. This is a wine built to last but even in its youth, it reveals unmistakable grace and presence.
For when: You want a wine that says “timeless” without waiting decades to prove it.
Pairs with: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragù, or aged Parmesan with balsamic drizzle.
If this wine were: A symphony in D major, powerful, refined, and capable of stunning precision.
The Vintage: The 2022 vintage in Bolgheri delivered strength and structure, yet special vineyard sites and thoughtful winemaking brought forward freshness and elegance rather than heat and heaviness. Hand-picked from hillside vineyards rooted in gravel and galestro soils, the fruit was macerated for 13–18 days and aged for 23 months in French oak. Despite the warm year, Tenuta San Guido preserved breezy acidity and vibrant minerality—resulting in a Sassicaia that marries the vineyard’s classic power with a new level of refinement.

- Producer Information
In the windswept coastal hills of Bolgheri lies Tenuta San Guido — an estate that rewrote the rules of Italian winemaking. Founded by the visionary Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta in the 1940s, it was here that the now-iconic wine Sassicaia first emerged, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon in soils Mario believed echoed Bordeaux’s Graves. In 1968, Sassicaia was commercially released and eventually granted its own appellation — the only single-estate DOC in Italy.
Today, under the guidance of Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta and his team, the estate spans vineyards planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese on the legendary gravel-studded slopes of the Tuscan coast. With 90 hectares in production, these vines draw strength from poor soils, cooling sea breezes and meticulous viticulture. Wines from Tenuta San Guido are defined by elegance and power — dark fruits, fine tannins, mineral lift and unmistakable longevity.
From Sassicaia to its younger siblings Guidalberto and Le Difese, the estate crafts wines with precision and passion — a blend of tradition and modern excellence that makes Bolgheri one of the must-watch appellations in the wine world.
