2012 Reserve Bin A Chardonnay, Penfolds

Adelaide Hills, Australia

“The Golden Hour”

Pale gold in the glass, this Chardonnay is a masterclass in balance and intensity. Aromas of white peach, nectarine and lemon curd are layered with notes of toasted hazelnut, flint and fine oak spice. The palate is rich yet taut with creamy stone fruit and citrus wrapped around a bright mineral core. The texture is luxurious, lifted by crisp acidity and a saline edge that drives through to an endlessly elegant finish.

For when: you want a white that feels like silk and sunlight.
Pairs with: roast chicken, lobster, or buttery pasta at golden hour.
If this wine were a feeling, it’d be the moment the sun hits your glass just right.

Reserve Bin A represents the pinnacle of Penfolds’ Chardonnay craft, sourced from the cool heights of the Adelaide Hills, hand-picked, barrel-fermented, and aged on lees in French oak. The 2012 vintage was exceptional, producing wines of precision, purity, and longevity.

Established in 1844 by Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary, the Penfolds estate has become a leading wine producer in Australia, with a great international reputation for its powerful red wines. The estate today produces a range of multi-vineyard and multi-region blends, as well as single-varietal wines aged in American or French oak.
The winemaking team is led by the masterful Peter Gago; it has the herculean task of blending the best wines from a multitude of different plots, vineyards and regions to create a consistent and outstanding range of wines. Its flagship wine, Grange, is firmly established as one of the finest red wines in the world.

All fruit is hand-picked into small bins and then whole bunch pressed. The juice is incrementally filled to barrique directly from the press, and allowed to undergo a natural fermentation, sans inoculation. Every barrique is its own unique 225 litre ferment. Enhanced mouth feel and complexities are achieved by fermenting on solids, using a selective mix of new and aged French oak. The wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation (all natural).
