Deluxe Cream Capataz Andrés, Bodegas Lustau

Jerez de la Frontera, Andalucía, Spain

Smooth, generous and beautifully balanced, the De Luxe Cream Capataz Andrés is Lustau’s tribute to craftsmanship, a blend of elegance, warmth and quiet sophistication. Deep mahogany with copper highlights, it opens with enticing aromas of dates, dried figs, raisins and polished oak, underscored by a whisper of smoke and toffee. The palate is silky and refined, rich but never cloying, with layers of caramelised fruit and nut lifted by a refreshing thread of acidity. The finish is long, rounded and subtly sweet, glowing with notes of wood spice and dried fruit. A timeless Cream Sherry that wears its sweetness with impeccable style.

For when: dessert feels optional but indulgence doesn’t.
Pairs with: blue cheese, fruitcake, or poured over ice with a slice of orange.
If this wine were: a person, it’d be a dapper old Andalusian, warm smile, impeccable manners, and a hint of mischief.

A blend of 85% Palomino (Oloroso) and 15% Pedro Ximénez, each component of Capataz Andrés is aged individually in its own solera before being married and bottled in Jerez de la Frontera. The wine honours Andrés Pérez, Lustau’s beloved capataz (cellar master) during the 1960s, whose skill and patience embodied the soul of traditional Sherry making.

Part of the Solera Familiar range, this Cream Sherry combines the nutty complexity of mature Oloroso with the natural sweetness and velvet texture of Pedro Ximénez. The result is a beautifully harmonious, medium-sweet wine, indulgent yet finely tuned, that captures both the craftsmanship and warmth that define Bodegas Lustau. Serve slightly chilled at 10–12°C for the perfect balance of richness and refreshment.

Regarded as one of the greatest and most respected names in Sherry, Bodegas Lustau stands at the pinnacle of Andalusian winemaking, a benchmark for quality, authenticity, and craftsmanship. Founded in 1896 by José Ruiz-Berdejo, the estate began as a small almacenista (stockholder) ageing and blending wines for larger houses. Over the decades, Lustau evolved from humble beginnings into a global ambassador for fine Sherry, earning acclaim for its meticulous sourcing, blending, and innovation.

Based in Jerez de la Frontera, with additional bodegas in El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Lustau uniquely represents all three of the Sherry Triangle’s towns, allowing the house to showcase the full spectrum of terroir and style: from the saline freshness of Manzanilla to the nutty depth of Amontillado and the velvety opulence of Pedro Ximénez.

Lustau’s defining strength lies in its unparalleled range. The Solera Reserva series highlights traditional, meticulously aged styles; the Almacenista collection honours small independent producers and their individual soleras; and the VORS (Very Old Rare Sherry) range offers century-old treasures of staggering complexity and rarity. Every wine undergoes patient maturation under flor or oxidative ageing in centuries-old casks, capturing the delicate balance between time, air, and wood.

Under the guidance of Emilio Lustau’s successors and now as part of the Caballero Group, the bodega continues to set the gold standard for Sherry, combining heritage and innovation with unwavering precision. Today, Lustau is celebrated not only for its technical mastery but for preserving the living soul of Jerez: wines of profound depth, layered aromatics, and timeless Andalusian grace.
