2020 Cabernet Sauvignon De Sangre, Luigi Bosca

Mendoza, Argentina

Rich, structured and beautifully sculpted, De Sangre 2020 captures the intensity of Mendoza’s high-altitude vineyards in full symphony. The nose is deep and alluring with blackcurrant, cassis and graphite mingling with notes of cedar, tobacco leaf and warm spice. On the palate, it’s powerful yet composed, with ripe dark fruit wrapped in fine-grained tannins and lifted by a streak of freshness from the Andean foothills. The finish is long, savoury and perfectly poised, showing both muscle and grace in equal measure.

For when: The night calls for something bold, confident and beautifully made.
Pairs with: Rib-eye steak, slow-braised beef short ribs, or dark chocolate.

Founded in 1901, Luigi Bosca is one of Argentina’s most historic and respected family wineries, a pioneer in defining Mendoza’s modern identity. Now run by the third and fourth generations of the Arizu family, the estate continues its century-long pursuit of purity, balance and authenticity. The De Sangre range represents the family’s deepest connection to the land: wines crafted from their oldest and best parcels across Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley.

The 2020 vintage was warm and dry, producing small, intensely flavoured berries with remarkable concentration and silky tannins. Aged 12 months in French oak barrels, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a statement of refinement: classic in structure, modern in polish, and unmistakably Argentine in spirit.

The grapes are manually harvested in 18 to 20-kilogram boxes, followed by the bunch selection and stalking processes, and, subse- quently, berry selection. The grape juice is cold macerated at a temperature ranging between 8 and 10 °C for five to seven days. After that, it is fermented in small stainless steel tanks, under- going various extractions, such as plunging and rack and return (délestage). Once maceration is completed, wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, where it goes through malolactic fermentation. After the final blend is made, the wine is filtered and bottled, and then stowed in the wine cellar for at least six months before it enters the market.
