2024 Lugarara' Gavi di Gavi, La Giustiniana

Gavi, Piemonte, Italy

Focused, lifted and beautifully precise, Lugarara opens with bright aromas of lemon peel, crunchy green apple and white pear, underpinned by subtle notes of almond skin, wet stone and fresh herbs. The palate is taut and linear, driven by vibrant acidity and a distinctly mineral core, with citrus and orchard fruit kept crisp and clean from start to finish. There’s real energy here, finishing dry, saline and wonderfully refreshing.

For when: you want something clean, focused, and seriously refreshing.
Pairs with: oysters, grilled prawns, delicate fish dishes, or light vegetable plates.
If this wine were… a morning swim in clear water, bracing, pure, and energising.

Lugarara is one of La Giustiniana’s most prized single-vineyard sites, located in the heart of the Gavi di Gavi zone. Planted to Cortese on limestone-rich soils, the vineyard’s elevation and exposure help preserve freshness while building intensity and definition. La Giustiniana’s long history in Gavi informs a careful, restrained approach in the cellar, allowing the character of the vineyard to shine. Lugarara represents the estate’s more precise, terroir-driven expression of Gavi, elegant, mineral and unmistakably of its place.

This estate covers 110 hectares in the heart of the commune of Rovereto in Gavi, 40 hectares of which are under vine. Here the grapes give pure, rich and balanced wines. Two single vineyard wines are produced, both of which are unoaked so the character of each vineyard shines through in the glass. The 'Lugarara' is always the more open and forward of the two wines. The wine's aromas of stone fruit and lime peel are immediately beguiling, making this one of our most widely sold wines. The 'Montessora', more mineral driven, has greater intensity and needs longer to show off its best. It will age easily for up to a decade or more.

The grapes were hand-picked and gently pressed upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation then took place at a controlled temperature of 16°C in stainless-steel tanks, lasting approximately two weeks. The wine, aged solely in stainless steel, was bottled in the spring following the harvest.
