2023 R.D.O. Ponente Prosecco Superiore Brut, Masottina
Conegliano Valdobbiadene, Veneto, Italy
Elegant, mineral and deeply expressive, the 2023 R.D.O. Ponente captures the rare finesse of Ogliano’s steep, sun-kissed slopes. Pale gold with a fine, persistent perlage, it opens with luminous aromas of acacia blossom, lime zest and wisteria, unfolding into layers of pear, Golden Delicious apple, and pink grapefruit. The palate is pure and poised with crisp citrus and green fruit woven with hints of wild herbs and sea-spray salinity. Its finish is long, refreshing, and quietly complex, the kind of sophistication that only great vineyard sites can deliver.
For when: the mood is bright and the moment calls for something effortlessly refined.
Pairs with: fresh oysters, sushi, or citrus-dressed salads.
If this wine were a landscape, it would be the morning mist rolling off Venetian hills, tranquil, luminous, and full of promise.
Masottina’s Rive di Ogliano vineyards represent the pinnacle of the family’s craft, steep, glacially formed slopes farmed by hand, where Glera finds extraordinary precision and depth. Since 1946, the Dal Bianco family has nurtured these UNESCO-listed hills with sustainable dedication under the SQNPI banner, crafting wines that blend heritage with quiet innovation. The R.D.O. Ponente is their statement of intent, an artisanal Prosecco of uncommon texture, minerality, and grace.

The Dal Bianco family has passionately devoted its energy to producing wine since 1946. It all began when grandfather Epifanio acquired the Ai Palazzi estate at Gorgo al Monticano, comprising five hectares of vineyard. When the manor house overlooking the vineyard was restored, an ancient inscription came to light: ‘Casa Masottina’, lending its name to this historic brand which has been owned by the Dal Bianco family for three generations. Today, Masottina wines are the product of almost 300 hectares which extend across the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Hills and the Veneto region. The vines are carefully cultivated by the family in keeping with the sustainable rules of SQNPI. It is however, through the Cru wines from R.D.O. Ponente and R.D.O. Levante in the hills of Ogliano, that the finest expression of Masottina’s quality truly shines. These stunning wines have gained deserved recognition and for the first time, Wine Spectator recently placed the Rive di Ogliano in the magazine’s Top 100 most important wines in the world.
The selected hand picked grapes are fermented off the skins at a controlled temperature of 15 - 18°C. The prise de mousse and lees maturation normally take place for approximately 60 days in pressure tanks, on selected yeasts, at a temperature of 13 - 14°C. The wine is aged for at least one month before distribution.
