2016 Vittorio Moretti Franciacorta Riserva, Bellavista

Franciacorta, Lombardy, Italy

A wine of gravitas and grace, the 2016 Vittorio Moretti Riserva embodies the quiet power and visionary spirit of its namesake. Pale gold with an ethereal shimmer, it opens with heady aromas of elderflower and jasmine, flint and incense, layered with Mediterranean herbs and a whisper of tropical fruit. On the palate, the mousse is impossibly fine, a silken surge of citrus, salt, and savoury depth, leading into waves of mineral tension and bright, crystalline purity. It’s complex, poised, and endlessly resonant: a Franciacorta of both soul and structure, where refinement meets force of will.

For when: celebration feels sacred, not loud.
Pairs with: caviar, lobster thermidor, or truffle risotto.

Crafted only in the finest vintages and aged over 70 months on lees, Vittorio Moretti Riserva represents the pinnacle of Bellavista’s artistry. Each bottle is riddled and disgorged by hand, a rare expression of patience and precision. The result is a zero-dosage Franciacorta that transcends category, vibrant yet profound, an ode to the land and the man who believed that beauty and excellence should never be hurried.

Founded in 1977 by the Moretti family, the Bellavista estate, which translates as ‘Beautiful View’, extends over 207 hectares of stunning land in Erbusco, in the heart of Franciacorta. Vittorio Moretti has always had a deep affection for the land. Long standing memories of carefree childhood summers spent with his grandparents in the countryside resurfaced many years later, when he decided to turn his hand to winemaking. In the beginning it was just a few hectares, a family home and an adjacent winery, with the desire to make good wine to share with friends. Fast-forward to today and the winery produces 1,500,000 bottles a year, according to organic viticulture principles. Franciacorta's unique terroir is nestled between the pre-Alps and Lake Iseo, and benefits from glacial soils and a mild, breezy climate ideal for grape growing. The epitome of Italian style, each cuvée beautifully showcases the essence of Franciacorta.

A slow and soft mechanical pressing in Coquard presses followed by decanting at cool temperatures. Fermentation using inoculated yeasts in stainless steel at between 15°C and 18°C and partly in small white oak barrels between 23°C and 28°C, then matured for 6/7 months (46% oak). The blend undergoes second fermentation in the bottle, left on lees for 70 months. The Riserva is completely riddled by hand, using natural cork for the second fermentation and the disgorgement is performed exclusively by hand. Zero dosage and only produced in the best years.
