2024 Sundance Viognier, Tumbleweed

Breedekloof, South Africa

“The Glow Up”

Glittering pale gold, this Viognier offers aromas of peach, pear, and honeysuckle, lifted by a touch of ginger and fresh herbs. The palate is glossy and generous, stone fruit richness balanced by citrus brightness. The finish glows with freshness and leaves a lingering floral trace.

For when: golden hour refuses to end.
Pairs with: prawn curry, ginger pork, or soft cheeses.
If this wine were a selfie, it’d catch the light just right.

Fruit is picked early in the cool of dawn, with partial barrel fermentation adding texture and shape. The result is a Viognier that’s sunlit and aromatic but still taut and balanced – a Cape take on this famously lush grape.

Bruce Jack Wines is made up of a small, dynamic team which aims to celebrate authenticity and provenance, not just in the wine they craft, but in everything they do. Head winemakers Bruce Jack and Marlize Beyers have worked together since 2002, and both have extensive experience in many winemaking regions around the world. Human culture started at the tip of Africa, despite it being ‘off the charts’, so it is fitting that something as culturally rooted as wine should thrive there, inspiring the ‘Off the Charts’ wine range, crafted from grape varieties and regions that are South Africa’s viticultural cornerstones. The labels draw inspiration from the untamed majesty of the wilderness and the symbolic Basotho blanket. The Tumbleweed series of wines capture the essence of the raw, unyielding beauty of this wild region, with vibrant flavours, they showcase the typicity of the grape varietals and the character of the land. In 2023, Bruce Jack featured for the fourth consecutive year in the World’s Most Admired Wine Brands, awarded by Drinks International.

The grapes were destemmed and crushed before being pressed to tank to settle. The wine was then racked to neutral 225 to 300-litre oak barrels for alcoholic fermentation. The wine did not undergo malolactic conversion retaining a balancing crispness. Maturation lasted for six months in barrel before being gently prepared for bottling. The “Tumbleweed” wine series is known for its wild and vibrant flavours, showcase the characteristics of the grape varietals and region.
