2024 Albariño, Lagar de Cervera
Rias Baixas, Galicia, Spain
Fresh, saline and utterly invigorating, the 2024 Albariño from Lagar de Cervera is like a sea breeze bottled at sunrise. Aromas of white peach, green apple and lemon zest mingle with notes of jasmine and sea spray. The palate is zippy and precise, all citrus and orchard fruit wrapped around a mineral spine that crackles with energy. There’s a touch of roundness on the mid-palate, adding texture without losing that crystalline freshness. The finish? Long, pure, and mouth-wateringly coastal, the taste of Galicia’s ocean air.
For when: you want your white wine to come with waves and sunshine.
Pairs with: oysters, grilled prawns, or anything that once lived in the sea.
If this wine were a day, it’d be the first warm afternoon of spring, bright, breezy and full of light.
Lagar de Cervera, located in O Rosal in southern Rías Baixas, is part of the prestigious La Rioja Alta family, bringing their meticulous winemaking heritage to Galicia’s windswept Atlantic coast. The estate was founded in the 1980s, when La Rioja Alta recognised the potential of Albariño long before its global fame. Today, it’s regarded as one of the region’s benchmark producers, a master of precision, purity, and site expression.
The estate’s Albariño vines thrive on granitic soils close to the Miño River and the Atlantic, where cool breezes and long ripening seasons preserve the grape’s natural acidity and aromatic complexity. Fermented slowly in stainless steel and aged on fine lees for subtle texture, the 2024 vintage captures everything Lagar de Cervera stands for: a pure, vibrant Albariño that balances citrus brightness with a whisper of sea-salt minerality, Galicia in its most elegant, refreshing form.

Lagar de Cervera has been owned by Rioja’s La Rioja Alta since 1988 when they decided to stop producing white Rioja (they used to have a Viña Ardanza Blanco) and moved to Galicia to make Albariño. They are located in the O Rosal zone in the province of Pontevedra. They work 75 hectares of vineyards (60 in O Rosal and a futher 15 in Cambados).
The grapes were chilled before undergoing gentle pressing in an inert environment. The musts
were settled by static racking and then fermented at controlled temperatures to preserve the
Albariño’s varietal freshness. Due to the excellent balance of the musts, we chose not to
perform malolactic fermentation, thereby maintaining the vibrant natural acidity of this
vintage. The wine remained on fine lees, with periodic bâtonnage to add texture, volume, and
complexity — without compromising any of its freshness.
