2024 Sauvignon Blanc, Isabel Estate
Marlborough, New Zealand
The Garden Breeze of Marlborough.
Vibrant, aromatic, and full of Marlborough sunshine, the 2024 Isabel Estate Sauvignon Blanc is a masterclass in precision and purity. Bursting with aromas of passionfruit, lime zest, gooseberry and fresh-cut herbs, it’s as lively as a summer garden after rain. The palate is crisp and juicy with waves of citrus and tropical fruit balanced by stony minerality and a mouth-watering saline edge. Elegant rather than brash, it finishes long, clean, and refreshingly dry, a beautiful reminder of why this style conquered the world.
For when: you need instant brightness in the glass.
Pairs with: goat’s cheese salad, oysters, or lemon-grilled chicken.
If this wine were: a season, it’d be the first day of spring - fresh, bright, full of promise.
Isabel Estate, founded in 1980 and one of Marlborough’s pioneers, sits in the Wairau Valley on some of the region’s oldest Sauvignon plantings. The estate’s free-draining alluvial soils, cool nights and maritime breezes create the perfect conditions for Sauvignon Blanc of striking aromatic intensity and natural acidity.
Today, under the guidance of winemaker Jeremy McKenzie, Isabel Estate continues to refine its signature: expressive yet poised wines that highlight vineyard character over flashiness. The 2024 vintage, long and temperate, produced fruit of exceptional ripeness and balance. Fermented mainly in stainless steel with a small portion in neutral oak for texture, this release shows the estate at its best, a finely tuned Sauvignon that marries Marlborough’s exuberance with Isabel’s hallmark elegance.

"The 2024 Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc leads with juniper and cassis, green apples and lemon zest. In the mouth, the wine has a quinine-like freshness and intensity, shaped by pliable phenolics through the middle palate and finish. This is a really classy wine here. It's sophisticated. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.”

Isabel Estate is one of the original Marlborough vineyards with some of the oldest vines in the region on original rootstock. In 1980, and with a bird’s eye view, pilot Mike Tiller discovered a precious pocket of land, and the beginning of one of the pioneering Marlborough wineries was born. Mike and his wife Robyn built a winery on the site and named it in honour of Mike’s mother, Isabel. Throughout the 1980s the couple planted key noble varietals and began to deliver fruit of exceptional quality, in high demand from premium and internationally renowned wine producers. In 2001 Mike’s mother, Isabel, coerced him into abandoning his flying career to focus on the estate.
Their ambition was to produce ultra-premium classic grape varieties that were a true expression of Marlborough as the chosen parcel of land delivered fruit of exceptional quality. The chosen parcel of land delivered fruit of exceptional quality, and it wasn’t long before it was in high demand from premium and internationally renowned New Zealand wine producers. In the natural order of things Isabel Estate released its single-vineyard wine in 1994, the Isabel Estate Pinot. Under the leadership of Chief Winemaker Jeremy McKenize, the winery continues to build its reputation for award-winning Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir but is also producing world-class Chardonnay. Testament to this, Isabel Estate has won multiple trophies in recent years with notable highlights being Champion Chardonnay and Best Marlborough Wine, NZ Wine of the Year Competition 2019 for the 2018 Wild Barrique Chardonnay as well as Champion Pinot Noir 2017, Marlborough Wine Show 2018 for the 2017 Isabel Estate Pinot Noir.
Harvesting occurred in the cool early mornings to preserve the wine's freshness and purity. Each vineyard block was harvested and fermented separately, allowing for a variety of yeast strains to enhance blending options. A brief period of skin contact before pressing ensured maximum flavour extraction from the grape skins. After cold settling, most of the
juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks to maintain its freshness, while a small portion was fermented in French oak barrels to add depth, complexity, and texture to the final wine.
