Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blanc CV1830, Champagne Valentin Leflaive
Champagne, France
The Leflaive family is renowned for its exemplary work across the most prestigious appellations on the Côte d’Or, in Burgundy. With this backgound it is no surprise Valentin Leflaive applied the family know-how with huge success to plot selections in the Champagne region from 2020. A proportion of the wines are aged in old Burgundy barrels which have previously been used to age the Puligny-Montrachet and Montrachet wines of the Maison Olivier Leflaive and which now help to bring out the complexity of these Champagne cuvees.
A new player in the Champagne sector, Valentin Leflaive is also at the forefront of wines provenance and transparency, with each cuvee proudly bearing its very own characteristics – while the letters express the terroir, the numbers indicate the year of the base and dosage.
A delightful Blanc de Blancs Champagne from Vertus Premier Cru (52%), Bergères les Vertus Premier Cru (27%) and Cramant Grand Cru (21%), the CV1830 has an attractive bouquet of stone fruits and lemon zest. Refreshing apple flavours and white peach notes lead to a long biscuity finish.

Valentin Leflaive Champagne reflects a life-long ambition of Burgundy`s Olivier Leflaive and his family to produce an exceptional sparkling wine. Named after Olivier’s son, it brings together the expertise and traditions of Burgundy and Champagne and offers a unique interpretation of this region’s grape varieties and terroirs.Launched in 2015, Valentin Leflaive was granted the status of ‘négociant-manipulant’ in 2020 enabling the company to manage the whole production chain including the purchase of grapes.
A boutique winery was opened in Oger with a traditional ageing cellar dug deep into the chalk. Chef de Caves Christophe Pitois, who looks after the important relationship with the growers, is assisted by talented enologist Clément Galois. Both are from the Champagne region. Offering a fresh and innovative approach, each cuvée has a unique code on the label with the letters referring to the terroir while the numbers indicate the year of the base wine and the dosage (e.g. in Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs CV 17 50, ‘CV’ means Cramant and Vertus, ‘17’ is the year the base wine was blended while ‘50’ refers to 4.0 g of sugar per litre).
