MV19 Fut de Chene, Champagne Henri Giraud
Champagne, France
“The Grand Overture”
Golden and radiant in the glass, with a cascade of fine, persistent bubbles, MV19 Fût de Chêne is Champagne at its most profound, powerful, layered, and utterly captivating. Aromas of pear, apricot and candied citrus intertwine with toasted hazelnut, spice and warm brioche. The palate is deep and textural, balancing richness with precision. Notes of honeyed stone fruit, citrus peel and roasted almond unfurl over a spine of crystalline minerality. Silky and expansive, it finishes with remarkable length, echoing chalk, oak and time.
For when: the night deserves more than one toast.
Pairs with: roasted turbot, truffle risotto, or aged Parmesan.
If this wine were an instrument, it’d be a grand piano - resonant, complex, and perfectly tuned.
Crafted in the Grand Cru village of Aÿ, MV19 Fût de Chêne is a testament to Henri Giraud’s singular mastery of oak, terroir, and time. Blended from two-thirds 2019 vintage wine and one-third perpetual reserve dating back to 1990, it’s aged in barrels hewn from the legendary Argonne Forest, each tree geo-positioned and selected to complement Aÿ’s chalk-rich soils. Under the precision of cellar master Sébastien Le Golvet, the result is a Champagne of astonishing harmony: rich yet taut, intricate yet pure. It is, quite simply, the house’s defining voice - a dialogue between forest and vineyard, crafted to perfection.

“What makes this wine is the fine, velvet texture at the end that rolls off the finish. Dried citrus, pastry and light walnut aromas here. I like the subtle, woodsy undertones, more of a deep-forest kind than toastiness. It’s powerful, broad and intense, with a solid structure and framing, but a very fine texture with seamless bubbles. So textural. 80% pinot noir and 20% chardonnay. One third perpetual reserve and two thirds of 2019. “
