2019 Franciacorta '61 Saten', Bellavista

Franciacorta, Lombardy, Italy

Pure poise wrapped in satin texture, the 2019 Bellavista ‘61 Satèn’ shimmers a soft gold in the glass, its fine, persistent mousse a promise of finesse. The nose is beautifully layered with sweet fruits and white blossoms mingling with autumn peaches, mango, and toasted hazelnuts, all lifted by a whisper of patisserie cream. The palate glides effortlessly: smooth, creamy, and luxuriously rounded, with ripe fruit richness perfectly countered by mineral freshness. Every sip feels like light meeting silk, graceful, delicate, and lingering with notes of lemon curd and roasted almond.

For when: the mood is soft light, low music, and quiet celebration.
Pairs with: lobster risotto, aged Parmesan, or buttered brioche with smoked salmon.

Made entirely from Chardonnay grown on Bellavista’s sun-kissed, mineral-rich slopes overlooking Lake Iseo, ‘61 Satèn’ captures the very soul of Franciacorta elegance. Crafted with precision in Coquard presses and matured for 48 months on lees, it owes its signature creaminess to the lower pressure that defines the Satèn style. The result is a sparkling wine of serene luxury, as soft as its name suggests, yet carrying the quiet depth and confidence of one of Italy’s finest houses.

Founded in 1977 by the Moretti family, the Bellavista estate, which translates as ‘Beautiful View’, extends over 207 hectares of stunning land in Erbusco, in the heart of Franciacorta. Vittorio Moretti has always had a deep affection for the land. Long standing memories of carefree childhood summers spent with his grandparents in the countryside resurfaced many years later, when he decided to turn his hand to winemaking. In the beginning it was just a few hectares, a family home and an adjacent winery, with the desire to make good wine to share with friends. Fast-forward to today and the winery produces 1,500,000 bottles a year, according to organic viticulture principles. Franciacorta's unique terroir is nestled between the pre-Alps and Lake Iseo, and benefits from glacial soils and a mild, breezy climate ideal for grape growing. The epitome of Italian style, each cuvée beautifully showcases the essence of Franciacorta.

The grapes undergo a slow and soft mechanical pressing in Coquard presses followed by decanting at cool temperatures. Fermentation using inoculated yeasts in stainless steel at between 15°C and 18°C and partly in small white oak barrels between 23°C and 28°C, then matured for 6/7 months. The proportion of oak is 48% with the rest in stainless steel. The assemblage is created followed by vinification using the traditional method, left on lees for a 48 months. The 'Saten' style is distinguished by its lower pressure at maximum 5 atmospheres, resulting in a creamy texture.
