2011 I Capitelli IGT, Anselmi, 375ml
Soave, Veneto, Italy
Decadent yet ethereal, I Capitelli is one of those rare dessert wines that feels almost weightless in its richness. Layers of apricot, candied orange peel, acacia honey and saffron rise from the glass, followed by a palate that glows with golden fruit, caramelised citrus and delicate spice. The sweetness is beautifully offset by a pulse of acidity that keeps everything dancing, ike sunlight flickering on Venetian water. Lush, complex, and profoundly elegant, it’s the kind of wine that stops a conversation mid-sentence.
For when: The evening deserves a grand finale.
Pairs with: Crème brûlée, Gorgonzola dolce, or nothing at all.
If this wine were: An aria at La Scala, it would be soaring, emotive, and unforgettable.
From his hillside vineyards in the heart of Soave Classico, Roberto Anselmi has long challenged convention, crafting wines that transcend the DOC’s boundaries in pursuit of purity and precision. I Capitelli is his masterpiece, made entirely from late-harvested Garganega grapes left to dry on mats until they reach perfect concentration. Fermented slowly in oak barrels and aged for over a year, the 2011 vintage captures the warmth of the season while preserving remarkable freshness. The result is a Venetian treasure: opulent yet poised, a golden thread connecting tradition, artistry, and the singular beauty of Anselmi’s volcanic hillsides.

- Producer Information
Perched on the steep volcanic slopes of Monteforte d’Alpone in the heart of the Soave Classico zone, Anselmi is one of northern Italy’s most visionary estates, a beacon of quality and individuality in a region long known for volume. Founded by Roberto Anselmi in the late 1970s, the winery was born from a quiet rebellion: disillusioned by the restrictive rules of the Soave DOC, Anselmi famously chose to label his wines under the Veneto IGT designation, allowing him to pursue excellence on his own terms.
Anselmi’s vineyards, Capitel Croce, Capitel Foscarino, and Capitel San Vincenzo, cling to sun-drenched hillsides rich in basalt and limestone, yielding small berries of Garganega with extraordinary concentration. Rigorous hand-harvesting, low yields, and meticulous cellar work define his style: purity of fruit, precision of structure, and a luminous expression of terroir.
While the estate’s dry whites rank among Italy’s finest, Anselmi’s late-harvest “I Capitelli” remains its crown jewel, a golden nectar that showcases the same obsession with balance and beauty. Today, under the guidance of Roberto’s children, Lisa and Tommaso Anselmi, the estate continues to set the benchmark for modern Venetian winemaking - bold in vision, meticulous in craft, and unwavering in its pursuit of perfection.
