2008 ‘La Ciornia’ Shiraz, La Violetta
Denmark, Western Australia, Australia
The inspiration for La Ciornia comes from Andrew Hoadley time spent working in Barbaresco. Really refined bright, the aromatic nose showing sweet, pure raspberry and cherry fruit with subtle hints of meat, olive and spice. The palate is superbly elegant with pure, seamless, beautifully poised cherry and raspberry fruit. Lovely elegance and freshness I think Matthew Jukes summed it up best for me when be said of Ciornia “I certainly had no idea that a Shiraz from Denmark could have Pinot Noir tenderness under its malevolent, vampiric exterior.”

La Violetta is undeniably one of Western Australia’s most innovative producers, from day one AJ Hoadley made waves with his debut release being named in Matthew Jukes’ Top 100 and Sarah Ahmed’s Top Five Australian wines and with Mike Bennie describing the wines as “One of the most exciting Australian producer’s ranges to cross my desk.”
The La Violetta wines offer power and precision, and drinkability in spades. Grapes are sourced from established vineyards from around the Great Southern region, and AJ plays a big part in overseeing the management of the vines, ensuring vine health and optimum ripeness.
All the wines are fermented spontaneously, and whilst none are filtered, some undergo a light fining. They are wines of presence and impact, but also of finesse and verve.
A Shiraz for Pinot Noir lovers.....
