Palo Cortado Peninsula Solera Familiar, Bodegas Lustau
Graceful yet commanding, the Palo Cortado Peninsula from Bodegas Lustau is one of Sherry’s most enigmatic and captivating styles, a seamless union of Amontillado finesse and Oloroso depth. Light amber in the glass, it opens with aromas of toasted hazelnut, caramelised orange peel and vanilla pod, woven with hints of mocha, leather and dark chocolate. The palate is dry yet richly textured with savoury, nutty and layered with gentle spice and warmth. Perfectly balanced acidity carries it into an endlessly long, elegant finish, leaving echoes of roasted coffee, cocoa and sea breeze. Sophisticated, soulful, and quietly spellbinding.
For when: the evening calls for reflection and something truly rare.
Pairs with: foie gras, cold meats, consommé, or spicy Asian cuisine.
Made from 100% Palomino, the Palo Cortado Peninsula is aged in Bodega Emperatriz Eugenia in Jerez de la Frontera, the heart of the Sherry Triangle. Its story is one of nature’s quiet intervention: a wine that begins ageing under flor, like a Fino or Amontillado, but naturally loses its protective layer to continue maturing oxidatively, developing the richness and body of an Oloroso while retaining aromatic delicacy.
Part of Lustau’s renowned Solera Familiar range, this Palo Cortado embodies the house’s artistry and patience, a style once defined by chance, now perfected by experience. A wine of remarkable balance and versatility, it bridges two worlds of Sherry with effortless grace, the brightness of youth and the depth of time in a single, lingering sip.
