2024 Pinot Noir Yarra Valley, Oakridge
Elegant, lifted and effortlessly refined, the 2024 Oakridge Pinot Noir captures everything that makes the Yarra Valley one of Australia’s most exciting cool-climate regions. Bright ruby in the glass, it opens with perfumed aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry and cranberry, underpinned by hints of rose petal, spice and a whisper of forest floor. The palate is finely woven with supple red fruit gliding over silky tannins and fresh acidity, with subtle notes of clove, cedar and earth adding depth. The finish is long, pure and beautifully poised, graceful now, but promising even more with time in the bottle.
For when: dinner’s elegant but the conversation’s easy.
Pairs with: roast duck, mushroom risotto, or crispy-skinned salmon.
If this wine were a person, it’d be quietly charismatic, all understatement and depth.
Oakridge Wines, founded in 1978 and based in the heart of Victoria’s Yarra Valley, is a pioneer of modern Australian precision winemaking. Under the direction of chief winemaker David Bicknell, the estate has earned a reputation for crafting wines that celebrate site expression and restraint rather than power. Fruit for the 2024 Pinot Noir is sourced from select Upper Yarra vineyards, where cool nights and gentle sunshine ensure slow ripening and luminous aromatics.
Fermented with a balance of whole berries and whole bunches, and aged in fine-grained French oak (mostly older barrels), the result is a Pinot Noir of texture, energy and tension, a benchmark example of Yarra elegance. It’s bright, balanced and utterly drinkable - Burgundy by way of Australia’s most graceful valley.
