2024 Pazo de Seoane, Lagar de Fornelos
Fresh, fragrant and full of coastal charm, the 2024 Pazo de Seoane is a celebration of Galicia’s native white grapes in perfect harmony. Aromas of citrus blossom, peach and green apple mingle with hints of bay leaf, sea breeze and white flowers, a lively mosaic of the O Rosal valley. The palate is bright and expressive, bursting with juicy stone fruit and citrus zest, balanced by zippy Atlantic acidity and a touch of lees-driven creaminess. Elegant yet generous, it finishes long, saline, and beautifully composed, a wine that sings of both fruit and place.
For when: you want a white that’s equal parts freshness and finesse.
Pairs with: grilled prawns, Galician octopus, or creamy seafood pasta.
If this wine were a scent, it’d be lemon blossom and sea salt carried on the wind.
Lagar de Fornelos, the Galician arm of the La Rioja Alta family, produces some of Rías Baixas’ most polished and expressive Albariños. From the coastal O Rosal subzone, Pazo de Seoane pays tribute to the diversity of Galicia’s native varieties - a blend of Albariño (81%), Loureiro (12%), Treixadura (5%), and Caiño Blanco (2%) - all grown on sandy-loam soils rich in schist just a few kilometres from the Atlantic.
The 2024 vintage brought a true Atlantic rhythm, a warm, wet winter and mild summer that allowed gradual ripening and pristine fruit. Each variety was vinified separately at low temperatures, then blended in the traditional O Rosal style, with ageing on fine lees to enhance depth and texture. The result is a wine that perfectly balances freshness, complexity and maritime character, a bright, elegant reflection of Galicia’s coastal vineyards and the craft of one of Spain’s great white wine estates.
