2024 '1753' Syrah Sans Sulfites, Château de Campuget
This sulphite-free Syrah is pure, unfiltered personality. The nose bursts with classic Syrah notes of black cherry, violet, and liquorice, followed by a hint of dark chocolate and cracked pepper. On the palate, it’s plush and velvety, the ripe black fruit wrapped in soft tannins and a touch of spice. There’s richness and depth, but also lift, a thread of freshness that keeps everything beautifully in balance. It’s vivid, vibrant, and utterly drinkable - a natural expression of Syrah at its most generous.
For when: the music’s loud, the grill’s hot, and the night’s still young.
Pairs with: chargrilled steak, spiced lamb skewers, or roasted aubergine with smoky paprika.
If this wine were a fabric, it’d be black silk - smooth, dark, and irresistibly bold.
Château de Campuget sits 15 kilometres south of Nîmes, near the village of Manduel, in the heart of the Costières de Nîmes AOP, one of the Rhône Valley’s southernmost outposts. Founded in 1942, the estate is known for its forward-thinking approach and commitment to sustainable viticulture.
The ‘1753’ range takes its name from the château’s founding year and represents the estate’s most modern, terroir-focused wines. Made from 25-year-old Syrah vines rooted in ‘gress’ soils of rounded Rhône pebbles deposited thousands of years ago, this cuvée draws its freshness from deep-rooted vines and Mediterranean breezes. Crafted without added sulphites by winemaker Frank-Lin Dalle, the 2024 vintage captures Syrah in its purest form: ripe, supple, and alive with energy.
