2023 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille, Domaine Antonin Guyon
Refined, expressive and luminously pure, the 2023 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille from Domaine Antonin Guyon is a white Burgundy that whispers rather than shouts. The nose opens with delicate aromas of white flowers, lemon curd and crisp pear, layered with subtle notes of hazelnut, acacia and wet stone. The palate is beautifully poised with vibrant citrus and orchard fruit gliding over a fine, mineral backbone, touched by gentle oak spice. There’s tension and texture in perfect measure, finishing with precision, length and a hint of saline freshness. It’s a wine of quiet confidence, understated, graceful, and unmistakably Burgundian.
For when: you want white Burgundy with both polish and poise.
Pairs with: scallops, roast chicken, or Comté cheese.
If this wine were a mood, it’d be soft jazz on a Sunday morning, elegant, effortless, and endlessly composed.
Domaine Antonin Guyon, headquartered in Savigny-lès-Beaune, is one of Burgundy’s great family domaines, known for crafting wines of remarkable finesse from a mosaic of exceptional vineyard holdings across the Côte d’Or. Founded in the 1960s by Antonin Guyon, the estate is now guided by his sons Dominique and Michel, who continue their father’s commitment to precision, purity, and authenticity.
Their Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille comes from steep, limestone-rich slopes directly above the Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne, giving the wine its signature mineral tension and restrained power. Hand-harvested fruit is gently pressed and fermented in French oak barrels (around 30% new), followed by 10–12 months of lees ageing for complexity and depth. The 2023 vintage, marked by balance and clarity, produced wines of beautiful definition and in Sous Frétille, the Guyon family has captured the essence of the site: poised, chiselled, and quietly unforgettable.
