2020 Precognition, Pinot Meunier Gin, Sugrue
When Wine Dreams in Juniper.
Born from a flash of inspiration and a bumper crop of Pinot Meunier, Precognition Gin is what happens when a winemaker’s intuition meets a distiller’s art. Crafted from grapes grown on Sugrue’s Mount Harry “Grand Cru” vineyard in East Sussex and distilled with Silent Pool in the Surrey Hills, it’s a gin that feels both familiar and entirely new. The nose is pure and elegant - juniper-forward with wafts of rosemary, jasmine, and lavender, underpinned by smoky spice from clove, cardamom and wild forest pepper. The palate glides between floral brightness and earthy warmth, finishing long, silky and savoury, a spirit that speaks in the same refined accent as Sugrue's great English fizz.
For when: you want a gin with a story worth pouring twice.
Pairs with: a crisp tonic, a twist of grapefruit, and good conversation.
If this gin were a mood, it’d be an English sunset in late summer, golden, aromatic, quietly thrilling.
Sugrue South Downs has long been a beacon for English sparkling wine, led by the visionary Dermot Sugrue. In 2020, when the vines delivered an exceptional harvest of Pinot Meunier, Dermot followed a long-held instinct, to capture that fruit’s character not in bubbles, but in spirit. Partnering with Silent Pool Distillers, he created a gin for wine lovers: single vintage, single vineyard, single variety. Distilled twice in copper pot stills using a blend of Serbian juniper, coriander, angelica root, clove, cardamom, pepper and floral botanicals, Precognition bridges vineyard and still with effortless grace. It’s a London Dry in style, but with the soul of a grand cru, proof that even in wine country, the best ideas start with a spark.
