2018 Shiraz, Groot Constantia
“The Cape Spice”
Deep ruby with purple glints, this Shiraz opens with aromas of blackberry, mulberry and dark cherry, layered with black pepper, clove and a hint of fynbos. The palate is plush yet precise with ripe fruit carried by fine tannins, savoury spice and a subtle smoky edge. Medium to full-bodied, it finishes long, balanced and beautifully fresh.
For when: the fire’s glowing and the conversation’s lively.
Pairs with: grilled lamb chops, pepper steak or aubergine with harissa.
If this wine were a song, it’d be smooth jazz with a spicy riff.
Groot Constantia is South Africa’s oldest wine estate, established in 1685 and famed for its historic role in shaping the Cape’s wine heritage. Today, it continues to craft wines that balance tradition with modern precision, with Shiraz thriving in the cool, ocean-influenced Constantia Valley.
