2018 Riesling Schoenenbourg Grand Cru, Dopff Au Moulin
Pale gold with glints of green, this Grand Cru Riesling radiates both richness and poise. Aromas of passion fruit, grapefruit and candied lemon peel rise from the glass, layered with honeyed spice, crushed rock and a touch of pineapple. The palate is vibrant yet full-bodied with ripe citrus and tropical fruit carried on a beam of zesty acidity, with a whisper of minerality that keeps everything taut and lifted. Dry, harmonious and long on the finish, it’s a wine of quiet power and shimmering elegance.
For when: you want something bright, bold and beautifully balanced.
Pairs with: seared scallops, Thai lemongrass dishes, or creamy goat’s cheese.
If this wine were a landscape, it’d be sunlight breaking over a steep Alsace hillside.
Schoenenbourg, meaning “the beautiful hill”, is one of Alsace’s most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards, rising steeply north of Riquewihr between 280 and 380 metres. The site’s complex soils of keuper marl, dolomite, gypsum and limestone layered with siliceous gravel and Vosges sandstone give the wines their signature depth and mineral tension. Within this terroir, Dopff au Moulin farms 8.8 hectares, producing Rieslings that combine fruit generosity with crystalline precision. The 2018 vintage expresses that duality perfectly: sun-warmed fruit, electric freshness and a finish that echoes long after the last sip.
