2015 Lune D'Or, Grand Vin Blanc Sec Bordeaux, Clos Des Lunes
Sauternes, Bordeaux, France
Clos des Lunes’ 2015 Lune d’Or is dry white Bordeaux with real gravitas, drawn from the Sauternes landscape but made in a luminous, savoury, fully dry style. Now beautifully evolved, it offers ripe citrus, apricot, lemon curd, white peach, honeysuckle, vanilla pod, toasted almond and a gentle waxy richness from mature Sémillon.
On the palate, it is broad, layered and quietly luxurious, with 2015’s ripe fruit wrapped around freshness, oak polish and a fine mineral line. The texture is generous without feeling heavy, the finish long and citrus-bright, carrying notes of apricot skin, spice, almond and warm stone. A serious mature white for drinking now, served cool rather than cold.
For when
A white wine needs to feel as special as a great red.
Pairs with
Roast chicken, lobster, crab, scallops, turbot, pork with apple, veal in cream sauce, Comté or mushroom tart.
Clos des Lunes is Olivier Bernard’s bold dry-white project in the heart of Sauternes, shaped by the same family behind Domaine de Chevalier. Lune d’Or is the estate’s top cuvée, focused on old-vine Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc bringing lift and precision. It captures a rare side of Bordeaux: the depth and nobility of great Sauternes terroir, reimagined as a dry, ageworthy white of texture, freshness and quiet grandeur.
